What Clients and Colleagues Have To Say:

Michael "Mac" McHale
President, Quintillion Networks
I hired Tom initially to help me launch a video service over the phone lines for the phone company in Hawaii. From that humble beginning 15 years ago, Tom and I engaged in a range of ventures including: co-founding a federal grant-funded wireless broadband venture to serve rural American populations in Colorado, consulting on fiber to the home ventures in Germany, the turnaround and sale of the phone company in the USVI and more recently engaging in pursuit of a grant-funded sub-sea fiber pipeline across the Aleutian Islands.
Tom has an uncommon ability to dissect any problem, isolate the root cause and provide a vast range of practical, implementable and effective solutions to solve for that problem in short order. However, his strategic problem-solving skills are just a preamble to his masterful ability to execute and implement the strategies he identifies. Implementing new strategies represents change, which can be difficult for established teams to adjust and accommodate new processes and behaviors. It is in this part of implementation where Tom’s skills shine. His integrity, authenticity, and professionalism, ever-present in his kind, respectful manner make his contributions welcome to all constituencies. He strives to ensure everyone on the team understands and “owns” their part of the value chain. Then, like a conductor of a symphony, he harmonizes the efforts of people and departments into a high-functioning end-to-end system that delivers superior service while recognizing and empowering the people that enabled the delivery of superior results. This virtuous cycle creates sustainable operations that pay long-term dividends.
Through the years, I have come to admire Tom’s ability to surmount every challenge that comes his way. Much of this ability is due to his perpetual optimism and belief in his ability to find the path to “positive territory” on any subject. If there were one person you would want to have at your side on a journey into the most challenging situations or the unknown, Tom would be the ideal companion.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Tom French for over 10 years. I hired Tom to take the helm of the marketing organization at TCI, the largest cable MSO in the U.S. at a time when subscriber counts had been in decline for over 18 months and we had exhausted countless cycles and resources to regain sales momentum. Through his efforts, the company quickly gained customers and revenue and he restored level of customer loyalty that had been absent for many years.
Tom came highly recommended by Rupert Murdoch, for whom Tom had worked and made considerable contributions to his initial, short-lived foray into the US satellite television arena. I was impressed immediately by Tom’s interpersonal skill but my admiration for his attitude, work ethic, creativity and passion for the business inspired me throughout our time working together. I can say with confidence that the same was true for all of those who were fortunate enough to come in contact with him during his time running the marketing of the company and in his endeavors since.
Tom brings a uniquely suited skill set to technology-driven, service-oriented, consumer-facing business. I know his background contains 3 satellite TV start ups, a wireless internet start up, definition and business planning for the roll-out of an IPTV service. In every one of these service oriented businesses, his role was to drive revenue through targeting and attracting customers of all kinds, keeping their interest and loyalty high, all the while seeking new, meaningful opportunities to increase ARPU. His success, both in start-ups and at TCI make him a highly qualified sales and marketing professional with the unique ability to drive results in situations where no precedent for success exists and practical innovation is required.
While the impact he made to all of those businesses could be measured in shareholder value and customer satisfaction, the real contribution Tom makes to the organizations he chooses to associate himself with is that of his indomitable spirit and inspirational leadership qualities.
The opportunity presented by the deployment of broadband services in rural America may present the singular best fit for his skills of any he might elect. The organization that is sufficiently fortunate to have Tom on their management team is destined for success and the assurance of a highly rewarding journey by his hand.

It has been my pleasure to get to know Tom as we worked closely over the past 4 years. Initially, I got to know Tom as CEO of ZoonoUSA commercializing a novel antimicrobial technology in the USA – a venture that he took from a failing business to a successful exit in a few short years.
I was immediately impressed by his agile mind and his uncanny way of turning highly complex technical concepts into easily understandable, benefit-driven value propositions. I have come to regard him not only as a true expert in this unique technology but his high level of acumen and experience across all facets of business from manufacturing and logistics to finance to sales and marketing has been equally impressive.
One of his most admirable qualities presents itself when he is presented with challenges outside his expertise. He readily acknowledges his limitation but his need to find the answer, pursuing an in-depth understanding of the subject and then turning it into accurate, reliable answers with actionable next steps shows a driven, curious mind, a desire to deliver the highest levels of service to his clients and a relentless dedication to continuous self-improvement.
Over time, I have come to know Tom as a truly caring person who shares his knowledge and expertise with others with the goal of inspiring them to achieve extraordinary results. His thoughtfulness and integrity have made him a dear friend and an outstanding professional asset to me in my business.

Tom is a bright, intuitive and creative marketer that I have had the pleasure to work with as a co-worker and a client for quite some time. His vision and drive for clarity of communication and brand applicability will continue to benefit any brand or company he is associated with.

Tom French and I have known each other professionally for 5 years but have a much longer history of working for the same executives, notably Rupert Murdoch Chairman of Newscorp and Ed Horowitz CEO of SES Americom. What’s more, we have worked on the same businesses addressing many of the same challenges at different stages of our careers. Consequently, in addition to knowing each other personally, I am well acquainted with Tom by reputation as well. Suffice it to say that he is an admired, ethical and much liked executive in the telecommunications arena.
Most recently, when Tom was CMO of Hawaiian Tel, at one of the most challenging times in its history and I was leading the development of IP Prime, the IPTV business within SES Americom, we had occasion to work closely together as Hawaiian Tel was one of our charter clients.
In short order I came to know Tom as a highly creative business problem solver ideally suited for the leadership role in a customer facing service business. He and his team were action oriented and unified in their mission to launch IPTV throughout the Hawaiian Islands. We considered Hawaiian Tel an ideal client, thanks to their spirit of partnership and can-do approach to this novel service offering. In fact, we even asked Tom to be a spokes person on our principal sales video which we used with great success until the eventual dissolution of IP Prime over a year later.
It is my honor and pleasure to put forth my support of Tom in this endeavor. His inspirational, customer facing style and solid telecommunication s acumen will be an unmatched asset and his personal leadership and evangelical style will make his contribution a difference that makes a difference.

I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with Tom French for 2 years. I hired Tom to lead Sales and Marketing for our entrepreneurial IP Video start-up, a wholly owned subsidiary of Accenture. Effectively, Tom managed the day to day activities of half of the company and partnered extremely well with the head of engineering who managed the other half.
One of the most impressive qualities Tom possesses is the ability to meet any challenge head on and through tenacity, emotional maturity and a powerfully innovative intellect, surmount them with grace and aplomb. In his role he was faced with a broad range of issues from restructuring the existing staff to positioning the company in the market and creating a compelling, differentiated value proposition. These were daunting challenges that had bested several other executives in this role but Tom prevailed.
When the management team first met Tom I recall a unanimous recognition of his management skills but overwhelmingly the team felt that his style and leadership skills would bring immeasurable benefits to the business above and beyond his intellectual contributions.
When Tom told me about his endeavor to bring broadband connectivity to underserved rural communities across America, I was eager to stand up and offer my support of him as the kind of leader any business would be proud to have grace their management roster. But even more so in this case as Tom excels where little or no precedent exists. Taking a business from the ground through to a smooth operating machine is the kind of professional situation where Tom’s true genius will be seen.

I have known Tom French, both personally and professionally, for over 7 years. Together we co-wrote the business plan for the first High Definition Satellite TV service and had occasion to get to know each other very well in that crucible, through the launch of the service and through its eventual sale to a competitor. As a result, I believe I have a unique perspective on Tom and I am eager to share it with you.
Tom with his dauntless, positive outlook makes him exactly the kind of person you want in the fox-hole with you when the situation is bleak. He has an acutely sharp, analytical, strategic mind and cool temperament you want at your side when you are getting shelled, your ship is on fire and taking on water fast. He is the kind of person you want at your side when you have run out of options and you need someone to pull a rabbit out of the hat. You want Tom with you in these situations because he can see options you didn’t know you had, a cool head to lead in any situation and the respect of those who meet him to inspire them to follow him through the darkness.
In a world at peace, Tom’s natural creativity and curiosity take average plans of any kind and from any department and make them extraordinary. He is a natural sales man and guided by a customer first mentality – he is in the business of creating buyers vs. driving sales. His formula works inside of companies interdepartmentally as well externally with constituencies of all kinds from Prospects to the Press and from the C-suite to the CSR.
Knowing Tom’s background as I do, I consider his ability and accomplishments to rank among the highest level of any sales, marketing and business development people I know. He has accomplished a great many things in his career as his resume will attest, but none of those can fully convey the magnitude of Tom’s contribution because the impact he has on business cannot be measured by quantitative accomplishments alone. How do you measure the impact of a compassionate leader who cares enough to listen to unstructured, general non-specific pain from another department and craft and execute a plan that changes the complexion of a Fortune 100 company in less than one calendar quarter? What is the value of the champion attitude that keeps the entire team ‘in the game’ when a new business hits a brick wall? He will be the last man standing and if knocked down, will be the first one back on his feet.
In sum, Tom is an executive that brings superior skills to the executive team at the interface where the company meets the customer but his 360 business acumen make him a powerful asset across the board. If I were to hand pick a team of executives with whom I would want to build my next telecommunications services venture, there is no doubt Tom would be on the top of that list.

Tom is one of the most imaginative, creative and hard working professionals I have had the pleasure to work alongside. His experience, capabilities and willingness to roll up his sleeves to get the job done for the best result is unquestionable. I trust him implicitly when we work together and I would recommend Tom without reservation.

A seasoned executive, Tom is innovative, creative, genuine, and a leader. He can take very abstract and fragmented ideas and distill them down into something that is easily understood and communicated. I was frequently impressed by how quickly he picked up on complicated technical issues and was able to apply them to the marketplace and customer needs. Additionally, Tom is an exceptional manager and one of the best I’ve had the pleasure of reporting too. He believes in his people, empowers them, and highlights their accomplishments so that they receive their just rewards. These skills, combined with an extremely charismatic personality, make Tom a truly unique and valuable person.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Tom French for over 5 years. We met during the very early stages of the definition of the first HDTV satellite service launched by Cablevision in October 2003. I was taken immediately by Tom’s charisma but my admiration for his attitude, work ethic, creativity and passion for the project inspired me throughout the 3 year life of the project. I can say with some confidence that the same was true for all of those who were fortunate enough to come in contact with him during that project and in his endeavors since.

I have known Tom for over 15 years and recommend him highly to any organization who is looking for a person who has the passion, creativity, and intelligence to make a real difference in their organization. Tom has very strong leadership capabilities- with the ability to make the hard decisions and provide out of the box thinking to any strategic challenges.

Paul Sunu
Chairman of the Board at Windstream
Tom French and I had the opportunity to work closely as members of the leadership team at Hawaiian Telcom. These were extraordinarily turbulent times and you get to know a great deal about the character of the people around you in times of great duress. I wanted to stand up for Tom and hail him as one of a special class of executives I have met during my career who rises to meet any challenge, no matter how high the bar.
Shortly after joining the company with the objective of defining and rolling out our IPTV service, Tom was promoted to take on all sales, marketing, product management and retail operations. He assumed this quantum leap in responsibility eagerly and without missing a beat assumed the leadership for over 220 people.
Within two weeks of his promotion he faced the board of directors with the news that there would be a significant shortfall in EBITDA, an issue clearly not of his making but one he took on the responsibility to remedy. Undaunted, he returned to champion his teams to sharpen their focus and renew their commitment to success while preparing for the inevitable work force reductions the financial gap would cause.
The net impact of this caused the shelving of the IPTV project, a discontinuation of an MVNO wireless line of business, closing of some retail locations and the inevitable headcount reduction. Throughout this entire process, his positive outlook never changed and his focus remained on the well being of his employees, their productivity and the bottom line. Never once did I hear a complaint about the situation, just a constant searching for and finding the next foothold and championing the company forward.
If I were in a position to hand pick a team of executives who are experts in their field, play to win and personify the epitome of collaborative, team success, Tom French would be one of the first on that team helping me to find others who share his unique and enviable balance of attributes.
